You are looking at the front of the 911 center, located on the busy corner of Amnicola Highway and Wisdom Street in Chattanooga. The center functions as Hamilton County's first all-inclusive emergency center, providing space for public safety communications, an emergency operations center, a full-time training facility and 9-1-1 administration. Ground was broke for the new building in September, 1994, and the building was completed in September, 1996.

The two-story structure, designed by TWH Architects and constructed by Soloff Construction, contains nearly 54,000 square feet at a cost of $5.2 million. Original communications equipment and furnishings were provided by the 911 District at a cost of about $1 million. The building and its contents were paid for upon completion.

The building is earthquake resistant. Major components such as power, communications cables and computer systems are backed up by redundant (dual) systems. Security cameras monitor sensitive areas around both buildings and parking lots and building access is controlled with a card-entry system. A computerized multi-zone HVAC system provides the appropriate temperature control to fit varying needs within the building. A synchronized clock system ensures that all computer systems and records reflect the same accurate time.
